Freshmen English (Period Per. 2) Assignments

Bootcamp Project starts Tuesday ( Per 2) and Wed (Per 3)of next week and continues through to Finals day. Your final will consist of your Bootcamp presentation, a personal response and a Socratic Seminar. YOur research paper and project will factor into the formula

In class Bootcamp Project due May 31st. We will use the week of May 23=27 to prepare. Be sure and follow the instructions on your team's handout and create a vibrant, interesting story!! ALL IN CLASS UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO WORK OUTSIDE OF CLASS. This is your team's decision 

Read through the end of Jekyll and Hyde for a double Bellringer quiz.

Work on your research project and paper. You will need to do much of your research on your own time, so pace yourself. We will be using Thursday and Friday this week to work on your "Concept" presentation for Romeo and Juliet

Steps for your research project and paper:

Make sure you have read/ re-read Act Four of Romeo and Juliet and understand it. Bell ringer quiz on Acts Three and Four.

Finish watching the movie OR its equivalent i.e. West Side Story or the modern day Leo DiCaprio version of Romeo and Juliet and type up response. This should be in 12 point font and should be an evaluation of what works ( or not)in the movie versus the script. Sound effects, special effects, setting, costuming, acting performances or ANY aspect of the film may be included.  Due Thursday.( Per 2) and Friday (Per 3)

Read Chapters 1 - 3 of Jekyll and Hyde.

Cont work on Research Projects and Papers

Work on your Rand J concept for your team presentation. 

Read / Review Act III, Scenes 1 and 2 of Romeo and Juliet  pp. 817-825 in your GREEN textbook. On page 818 are definitions of  "an aside". "monologue" amd "soliloquy". Type up these definitions and give examples of each from the text. Make sure you use quotes for this.

Make sure you have read and that you understand the plot, conflict, characters and themes of Acts One and Two of Romeo and Juliet.  We will have a Bellringer Thurs ( Per 2 after our library session ( if time allows) and Per 3 Friday

Select and narrow your research topic . You need to let me know by Friday.

Do a line by line translation of one of Mercutio's monologues in Act Two, Scene Three of Romeo and Juliet.The one I suggest is . 805 in your green Textbook, lines 13-16;18-25;27-34 ( Omit the lines inbetween spoken by other characters)

Keep working on rough draft. We will finish final draft in class Thursday and you may submit via turnitin.com.

Bring in your outline/ mapping and any planning you have done for your composition  on The Odyssey. This is NOT a rough draft; it is a preliminary step! We will be writing in class Friday and most of next week. Remember that the prompt will focus on the key cultural concepts that governed the ancient Greeks i.e. moira, hospitality code, retribution, catharsis, hubris and how Homer integrates them in his writing of The Odyssey. Your planning and preparation should reflect this!

Finish reading The Odyssey by Tuesday. We will have a  major Bell ringer quiz followed by a class discussion, Everyone will be expected to comment.

We will have Bellringer quiz on the final sections of The Odyssey in class Wed

( Per 2) and Thurs.( Per 3)

We will go over structure and format for your Odyssey essay on Wednesday and Thursday after the quiz.

Complete your Character Chart on Chapters 1 and 2

Type up your lists of vocabulary words with a definition for each and an accompanying sentence. You may use two words in each sentence or you may write each word in a separate sentence. Make sure that you you use the word correctly.
