This website © 2007 has been built for the South Pasadena High School English Department (SPHS) by Chair Jim Asher. It was inspired by and is dedicated to Genny Murguia, who, having taught English for over fifty-two years in the public school system, is the kindest compository of the best short stories for 9th grade students that South Pasadena High School has ever seen. A former editor to National Scholastic Magazine, as well as English Department Chair at SPHS, she hopes that this website will help students continue to experience exceptional short stories that challenge them to think, feel, and grow, but most important, inspire them to become critical readers ready to continue their education throughout high school and beyond. Others who played an integral role in the development of this website are fellow English teacher Cathy Nese, who experimented with potential designs for this website, and senior Candace Liu, who helped with the manual construction of the site, not to mention countless hours of scanning and linking of its short stories. May you pick the very best short stories and thoroughly enjoy them. NOTE: Titles throughout these Boot Camps will be "activated" as stories are scanned and linked; it is, indeed, a work in progress.
