Questions:
1. What happens in the kite fighting competition? What are two pieces of figurative language that Hosseini uses to describe the kites?
2. When Amir tells Hassan to run after the kite, what does Hassan yell back at him? Where was this phrase used earlier in the text? Why would the author use repetition here?
3. In chapter 7 Amir states, "then he smiled his Hassan smile and disappeared around the corner. The next time I saw that smile unabashedly like that was twenty six years later, in a faded polaroid photograph." What are the implications of this quote? What might this foreshadow?
4. Describe the place where the three boys have trapped Hassan. How does Hosseini use symbolism in this scene?
5. What memories flood Amir's mind as he witnesses the assault on Hassan? How does Hassan behave during and after the assault?
6. In chapter 7 Amir states, "I had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going to be.
