Greenhouse Fall 22-23-Period 5 Assignments

You may not want to hit "done" until all 15 events are due on Wednesday, 2/1. You must be ready to read aloud and discuss through 4.3 on Monday though.

Be sure to read the "Agenda 1/11 (initial slides directions)" and "More Group Slideshow Specs" posts. Like this post, they are posted near the top of the Classwork tab.

You must have 6-10 slides. This includes 1 cover and 1 works cited. Your presentation must be 3-6 minutes long. This is about 45 seconds per content slide. Beautify the slides for which you are responsible. Practice presenting them (again, about 45 seconds per slide). Please say almost nothing about the cover and works cited slides. Remember that I am grading you on the following:

3. documentation (MLA, in-text citations and works cited)

This page is for Act IV's vocabulary. The words can be found on page 844. You do not need to include "predict," but please add "equivocate." Equivocate is not on 844, you will need to look it up in a dictionary. In total, you need 15 words, parts of speech, and definitions so you will have to find some number on your own. Finish this page, but you do NOT need to read Act IV yet.

Read 3.1-3.2 and record 10+ of the 15+ events from Act III.

Read this important scene and be ready to discuss it during class on Friday.

Do 15+ vocabulary, parts of speech, and definitions from Act III on page A35. 10 of the 15 words can be found on page 818. I only assigned 10 to first period; first period can do the full 15 if they'd like to get it out of the way. Otherwise, first period can find their own words for 11-15 as additional homework on Wednesday. You have the whole page to do just vocabulary. The events will go on a different page on a different day. You do NOT yet need to start reading Act III.

Be sure to staple the workbook pages and leave them with Mr. Whitacre.

Who is the woman in history and/or mythology? Did she ever exist? Was she just a fictional character, a real person, or both? Does she have a last name? What was her role or job title? Also, who wrote fiction about her? Include an image of her. (1-3 slides)

When and where is her story set? For Cleopatra, choose a fictional story to focus on for the remaining questions. (1 slide)

What and how: What is the basic plot of one story about her by the author you mentioned above? What characteristics does she have inside the story? How would you characterize her relationship/s with men in the story? (1-3 slides)

Why should we study her story/history in 2023? (1 slide)

You will have 30+ minutes to draft this today. It does not need to be polished yet and no one should work on it as homework. Ideally though, you get all the content drafted during class today. Please be sure to keep links to any site you use so that we can properly cite the information later. You should set up your own slideshow. Share it with me during class today, but you will not submit it anywhere else at this time.

The prompt will be revealed in class. You will get 40+ minutes to complete the assignment. BRING your charger Chromebook.

Prompt:
Analyze Romeo or Juliet's relationship with a biological parent. Is the relationship in good, bad, or mediocre shape and who gets the credit or the blame for the relationship's status?

After reading the rest of the act, add 15+ events to the right column of A32.

Another reason to complete the reading is so that you are ready for the RCD on Acts I and II next time!

Submit the 3rd/final draft of the essay to turnitin.com before class on Friday. Remember that the paper must be between 600 and 800 words. It's a good idea to go look at the Classroom directions for earlier drafts if you need reminders about other requirements and prompt specifics. Also, double space in SIZE 12 FONT. Use a PROFESSIONAL STYLE -TIMES NEW ROMAN, TAHOMA, ARIAL ETC… ALSO, YOU MUST HAVE IN-TEXT CITATIONS, BUT DO NOT NEED A WORKS CITED FOR THIS PAPER.

Spend some time fine tuning your paper.

Other things to consider:
How creative is your title?

Eliminate contractions and class specific shorthand.

Consider arrangement. Where is your thesis? Is there a degree of nuance built into the thesis? What should be the focus of each body paragraph? Do you have a really good reason to limit each paragraph to a single text if you're doing the BILB paper?

Can you add interesting adjectives to describe the various relationships? Are you really proving your claims about the various relationships?

Read the attached student essays. How would they score on the rubric?

You do not need to submit a third draft to turnitin.com yet.

Record the 11 words and terms found on page 794. Then find 4 more of your own from Act II.

Reread draft 1 of the essay you turned in before Thanksgiving. Read it slowly and aloud. Make any changes you want. Be sure your paper is between 600-800 words. I will charge if you are under or over on this second draft. Submit the second draft to turnitin.com before class on Monday.

1. Play opens with the servants of the two families fighting.
2. Benvolio and Tybalt get involved.
3. Benvolio is less willing to fight. He is calm while Tybalt is quick to anger.
4. The prince threatens death if the fighting continues.
5. We meet Romeo and learn of his unrequited love and his family’s concern for his mental health.
6. We meet Paris who wants to marry Juliet.
7. A Capulet servant mistakenly “invites” the enemy Montague teenagers to a Capulet party.
8. The nurse talks A LOT! She’s kind of annoying, but does really care about Juliet and is very supportive.
9. Juliet is somewhat open to meeting Paris. She wants to make her mom happy.

11. Mercutio is a foil to Romeo here. Mercutio is a sarcastic realist. Romeo is a hopeless romantic.

15. R and J learn of each other’s identities and are depressed that dating will be difficult.

If you need to talk about multiple things you believe to fill the space, that’s fine. It is due today. Please do the best you can and be sure to leave whatever you get done with the sub.
