2023 PROGRAMS

2023 Eve & Gene Black Summer Medical Career Program

Basic program parameters:

Medical Mentor/Internship Program: Participants will EITHER attend daily online sessions with presentations/interactive sessions from a variety of general pediatricians, specialists including surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, infectious disease, ophthalmologists, radiologists, child life, therapists, (i.e., physical, speech, occupational, or cognitive) OR apply and be accepted to attend an in-person program (in-person programs subject to change)
If selected to attend an in-person program, participants are responsible for their own transportation.
This program is ONLY open to qualified students from Los Angeles and its adjacent counties.
For In-person programs only: Must confirm that you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including a booster dose if eligible and can provide proof of vaccination and any required boosters upon request.

Online Session Age & Grade Requirement: Applications are accepted from high school students who are currently in the 11^th or 12^th grade AND born on or before 7/1/07.
Online Session Times/Dates: Session 1: July 10-20, 2023 Monday – Thursday - 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Session 2: July 24-August 3, 2023 Monday – Thursday - 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

UCDavis Young Scholars Program

Program dates: June 25 – August 5, 2023

Application Period: January 15-March 15, 2023

The UC Davis Young Scholars Program is a summer residential research program designed to expose approximately 40 high achieving high school students to the world of original research within the fields of the biological, agricultural, environmental and natural sciences.

Participants in the UC Davis Young Scholars Program will work one-on-one with research faculty and research groups in state of the art laboratories for six weeks. Each student will work on an individual project and prepare a journal quality paper and symposium presentation about their work.

In addition to scientific research, the UC Davis Young Scholars Program strives to introduce participants to the climate and culture of living and learning on a university campus. Staff make every effort to model the experiences that participants will have during their first years of college.

All participants will be enrolled in five (5) units of University Group Study Credit. Assignments for the program include research notebooks, a written article of journal quality describing the research project and its conclusions, presentation of the individual project at a research symposium and presentation of research to students at the home high school. All work in the program is graded and credit will be awarded after home presentations are completed.

GRAMMY Camp

GRAMMY Camp is a 7-day non-residential summer music industry program for high school students interested in having a career in music. Students from across the country apply for one of the eight offered career tracks. GRAMMY Camp faculty of music professionals as well as guest industry professionals provide valuable insight to give the campers the best chance at achieving success in their chosen career.

Financial assistance is available for students who need it, and the form to apply can be found as part of the GRAMMY Camp application.
