SPHS Advanced Sports Medicine Students Qualify for Nationals

On March 14, 2026, the SPHS Advanced Sports Medicine students participated in the 25th annual AACI High School Sports Medicine Competition and qualified for nationals. This year’s event was the largest turnout in the competition's 25-year history, featuring 43 schools and nearly 800 participants. 

SPHS achievements include:

  • Team Standings: Our team took 3rd Place.
  • Anatomage Tournament: Our Anatomage teams showcased incredible technical skill, placing 8th and 12th out of 39 competing schools. Shout-out to James Lacey, Esther Roh, Sofiia Zabrodska, Zen Williams, Griffin Matlock, and Naya Holden.
  • Individual Gold: A special shout-out to Griffin Matlock, who took home the Gold Medal.
  • Quiz Bowl & Medical Exams: A special shout-out to Kyle Kirchen, Jonah Mekhitarian, and Sophia Allen for their sharp performance in the Quiz Bowl, and to Kaitlynn Lowstuter for her hard work and focus on the rigorous Medical Abbreviations exam.
  • Student of the Year Candidate: Congratulations to Izabella Deere, who accumulated more than 90 hours of clinical experience and produced a high-level research paper on a published Sports Medicine article. 

Congratulations to these students and their CTE Advanced Sports Medicine teacher, Andre Zumaeta.
