Growing SPMS and SPHS Drama Classes Come Together and Attend Local Performance

In a new twist for the SPMS and SPHS Drama programs, students from both schools recently came together and attended the fast-paced, humorous farce, “One Man, Two Guvnors,” at A Noise Within Theatre in Pasadena. Grouping the drama students from 7th to 12th grade together helped build a bridge between these two growing programs and offer a fun way for students who had worked together over the years to reconnect.

Before seeing the play, students learned about the 11 main stock characters found in commedia dell’arte and how characters are built and interact with one another. They engaged in a number of different acting and improvisation exercises with the purpose of stretching their character building techniques. Seeing shows in person after analyzing how a playwright constructs stage shows using stock characters helps teach the students about this early form of professional theater.

Thank you to SPMS drama teacher Schuyler Mastain and SPHS drama teacher Nick Hoffa for bringing students together for this learning experience.

Go, Tigers and Tiger Cubs!
