Two SPHS Students Earn Scholarships in Photographic Art Competition

Kudos to SPHS seniors Maya Young and Rowan Smith on winning scholarships for excellence in photographic art. Ten SPHS photography students were finalists in the competition. Young won second place—earning a $3,000 scholarship, and Smith won third place—earning a $2,000 scholarship. 
 
The William G. Ericson Foundation, in partnership with the PCC Foundation, sponsored the photographic art competition open to public high schools in the Pasadena City College district area to provide awards to meritorious students. Ericson was a graduate of SPHS and PCC, and he was the former owner of the South Pasadena Review and The Quarterly Magazine.
 
The exhibition was juried by professionals from Associated Press, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, and Getty Images. The Scholarship Awards Ceremony and Reception took place on Saturday, May 18, 2024. SPHS Finalists, led by photography teacher Rouzanna Berberian, included:
