SPUSD Students View Historic Partial Eclipse

Students, faculty, staff, and administration viewed a partial solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024.

All SPUSD schools celebrated the partial eclipse in different ways. The middle school’s science department shared the science behind the eclipse and planned activities and special lessons to share with the students. SPMS ASB purchased special viewing glasses for all students and entertained everyone with themed eclipse music. Elementary students also participated in a variety of viewing activities on each campus using the necessary safety precautions. Students were able to view the eclipse during recess and lunch and some also listened to a special eclipse playlist during the event. Thanks to the Marengo PTA for providing eclipse viewing glasses for all the elementary schools. High schoolers viewed the eclipse using special glasses and handmade viewing tools like pinhole viewers for a prime eclipse experience.
