Making it to the CIF State Track & Field championships alone is an honor. There are nearly 50,000 high school track and field student-athletes in California, and placing among the best is a noteworthy achievement. This feat was accomplished by two of South Pasadena High School’s top female and male athletes this past weekend at the state track championships held at Buchanan High School in Clovis, Calif.
After qualifying from the previous day's prelims, juniors Mia Holden and Keeran Murray made it to the elite finals, competing for the top honors in their respective events. Murray placed 6th in his championship race, the 800 meters. He did it by running a lifetime best of 1:53.79. Mia Holden medaled in her specialty, the 300 meter hurdle race, by placing 4th with a time of 42.27, which was both a new school record and lifetime best record.
Both superstars continued the SPHS tradition of placing athletes in championship meets against much larger schools.
