SPUSD School Registration Begins Soon

SOUTH PASADENA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT REGISTRATION PROCESS BEGINS SOON

Schools Welcome Prospective Students for the 2021-2022 Academic Year

     SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. (January 19, 2021) – The registration process to enroll students in South Pasadena elementary schools for the 2021-2022 school year will begin February 16, 2021 at 9 a.m. Parents interested in registering students should begin by scheduling an appointment at their home school. The student’s home school is determined by the attendance area boundaries for each school (http://bit.ly/HomeSchoolBoundaries).

     To improve the likelihood that siblings will attend the same elementary school, siblings of current students will be allowed to register first, followed by new families in the District. When parents/guardians participate in the meetings during the designated dates, they are ensured an equal chance of being placed at their home school during the new family lottery, regardless of when the initial meeting takes place. The date and time of registration will only be used to determine school placement (as space permits) for students who register after March 19, 2021. Registration is a multi-step process as outlined below:

SIBLINGS OF CURRENT STUDENTS (TK-5):
  1. Starting February 16 at 9 a.m., schedule an appointment at the home school and pick up a registration packet;

  2. Fill out the registration online at https://my.spusd.net/ and print two copies;
  3. Complete the registration process during the scheduled appointment.
    • Parents must submit all required paperwork including residency verification documents.
    • For in-person appointments, parents must complete the District Health Screening before the appointment, wear a face covering during the appointment and follow all health and safety guidelines.

    • Parents must submit all required paperwork including residency verification documents.
    • For in-person appointments, parents must complete the District Health Screening before the appointment, wear a face covering during the appointment and follow all health and safety guidelines.
     Required documents at the registration appointment include three current proofs of residence, two copies of the printed AERIES Internet Registration (AIR), original birth certificate or passport for the child, original immunization records for the child (officially translated, if in another language), and photo identification of the parent/guardian registering the child.

     After sibling and new family registrations take place, two different lotteries will be held. First, the Dual Language Immersion (DI) lottery will be held to establish the DI kindergarten classes at Marengo (Mandarin) and Monterey Hills (Spanish), and then the new family lottery will be held to establish priority among the new families who have registered at each home school. The DI lottery will take place on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. Results from the DI lottery will be emailed by 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021. DI commitment forms are due to the District by 12 p.m. on April 23, 2021. The new family lottery will take place on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. These lotteries are open to the public and will be held in the District Office boardroom if current Los Angeles County Department of Public Health protocols allow public gatherings. If not, each lottery will be recorded, and posted on the District website for parent viewing.

     If parents would like a child to attend a school other than the designated home school, they must complete an open enrollment form, available at the school office, and turn it in to SPUSD, Office of Instructional Services, Room 4, prior to April 30, 2021. The open enrollment lottery will take place in early August, and those placements, if possible, will be made just before the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

     Families with new middle or high school students may pre-register their students at the school sites beginning April 19, 2021 by appointment. Please check the school or District websites for more information.
