Chromebook Checkout Schedule

Dear SPUSD Parents/Guardians,

This year, SPUSD is transitioning to a one-to-one approach for computing devices, and every student in grades TK-12 will receive a Chromebook before the school year begins. Students will be issued a district Chromebook to participate in our distance learning program. Equipping every student with a SPUSD Chromebook will enable us to promote a safer, more productive environment for students. SPUSD also will oversee appropriate applications, updates, and internet filters for all elementary and secondary level students.

The SPUSD Technology Department will be offering Chromebook Checkout from August 3-7 and on August 10 at the SPUSD District Office parking lot, 1020 El Centro Street, South Pasadena. Please enter the parking lot from Fairview Avenue and park in the rear lot. In order to control traffic and possible backups, you must use Diamond Avenue to exit.

Face coverings will be required to pick up a device. Please practice social distancing and respect the safety of others while on our grounds. If you currently still have a Chromebook from last school year, you will be required to turn it in before picking up another device.

If you miss your assigned checkout day, you may pick up a Chromebook during any of the ensuing time slots at the marked Customer Service Table. You also may request Chromebooks for a sibling at another school during any time slot, but please expect additional waiting time due to the number of devices we will be distributing.

Chromebooks remain the property of the South Pasadena Unified School District, and per California Education Code 60010(h), shall be considered instructional material that must be cared for properly. Parents and students will accept fiscal responsibility for any damages or loss to the Chromebooks (California Ed Code 48904(a)(1)).

South Pasadena Unified School District has set up the opportunity to purchase Chromebook insurance through a third party provider. The insurance will be independent from the district and is completely optional. The SPUSD Technology Department will only intervene in the repair process, so that we may issue a loaner device for your student. Details and flyers with insurance information will be available during checkout, or you may take an advance look by visiting www.schooldevicecoverage.com. Coverage will be $22/year per device, and this will cover theft, accidental & water damage, and all malfunctions. Multiple claims will not lead to an increase in your annual payment.

Please take time to review our Student Technology Acceptable Use Policy within the Aeries Parent Portal with your student(s). It is imperative to inform your school main office immediately if you have hardware related issues with your Chromebook.
