SPHS Students Explore Biomedical Research

On Friday, November 15, 37 South Pasadena High School (SPHS) students visited Oak Crest Institute of Science in Monrovia, Calif. Oak Crest is an innovative chemistry and biology research and education center where scientists immerse students of all academic levels in high-impact research.

Founder Marc Baum, Ph.D. and Senior Researcher Paul Webster, Ph.D. welcomed students who are part of the SPHS Internship Program and the high school’s biomedical sciences pathway. Students were divided into two groups – one group toured the research facility while the other group interacted with microbiologists, biologists and chemists who shared their career stories. Students and three teachers traveled using free Metro (train) service between the high school and the research facility.
