Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) (Period CTSO)
Course Description
FBLA is an important partner in the success of school Career Technical Education (CTE) course pathways, school-to-work programs, business education curriculums, and student leadership development. FBLA is recognized by the U.S. Departments of Education and Labor as an integral part of a co-curricular approach to business and leadership education.
The FBLA Mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. We bring our mission to life through the application of our Motto: Service, Education, and Progress.
The South Pasadena High School Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), in collaboration with the SPHS SkillsUSA Chapter, has participated with the Walking Shield Organization to host a Backpack Drive, providing Backpacks to 100 students in the Hoopa Valley Tribe in Northern California, at the holidays. The students generously "adopted" a child in October, and filled each child's backpack with clothing, hygiene items, toys, books, and school supplies. Many of the classes and teachers at SPHS helped us by "adopting" back packs for their classes, with the English teachers making this a project to supplement the reading of the book: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.
In November 21 members of our chapter attended the Leadership Development Institute (LDI), in Anaheim, CA, where they attended two days of workshops and fun activities, hosted by business professionals, and the State and Section Officers from the Southern, Inland, and Gold Coast Sections.
In February, the South Pasadena High School Chapter of FBLA, hosted the Gold Coast Section Conference, welcoming over 17 schools, and 500 staff and students. After a day of competitions, the students were entertained by the Gold Coast Section Officers, with activities including: Monopoly Mania; Shark Tank; and a Trading Room. The SkillsUSA Chapter of SPHS also helped with the conference, by hosting a session where the FBLA students could make cards for the U.S. Service Personnel, through the American Soldier Network. Members of the SkillsUSA team also hosted an Escape Room, where students focused on mental wellness.
April brings our State Leadership Conference, which was set to be held in Ontario California. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 virus, the conference has had to be cancelled. (COVID-19 Letter to Advisers 3-20-2020 (1).pdf) We are still proud of our section qualifiers for this event:
