Applications of Calculus (Period Per. 4)

Course Description

Calculus is a college preparatory course. The coursework in this class will reflect the rigor of a college course, so it is expected that students will study and complete homework in a timely manner. In this class, we will focus on the applications of calculus, as well as previous courses, to solve for scenarios that will be presented to people in the work force. In this way, I hope to prepare students for scenarios in which they will have to use mathematics in the “real world”.

Calculus is a capstone course that will have students use all of their skills that they have learned in previous years. Students are expected to blend problem solving techniques and critical thinking skills to solve problems for both homework and tests. Students should not focus on memorizing techniques or processes in order to solve problems. Students should instead look for the underlying concepts that will help them understand mathematics as a whole. This type of learning is called “Doing the math”. I expect all students in this class to be able to “do the math” and explain their understanding of all concepts covered in this class.
