Do a 4th and final draft of your IR project. Do not delete any previous drafts. The structure of this final draft is mostly up to you. The only requirements are that it be at least 10 lines long and contain a qualifying extended metaphor or character foil as well as a creative title. It doesn't need to be a sonnet or do anything special with regards to syllables or rhyme at this point. You do not need to print this final draft yet, but I will ask to see an electronic copy in class. The first ten lines must be memorized for our class readings on Friday, 3/6.

The fiction must be about 200 pages. This is the most free of your IR reading assignments. For 4th quarter, you must read a memoir or autobiography.
 
Also, read the three poems on pages 1053-1055 and 1059-1560 in your green textbook. Be ready for a short reading quiz on these poems. You do NOT need to bring your textbook to class.

The title of that Tedtalk is "How to Raise a Black Son in America." Remember that the prompt was "Accurately identify Smith's message about humanity and identity. Develop your analysis with well-chosen, relevant evidence (quotations) from the text." BRING THE BENCHMARK BACK TO CLASS ON MONDAY/TUESDAY.

2. Follow the link below and watch the video about the Scottsboro boys. Please know that some of To Kill a Mockingbird is a clear reference to the infamous Scottsboro boys. That won't become obvious until deep into the book, but understanding that historical connection right away can be helpful.
 
 
3. Read the first 10 pages of To Kill a Mockingbird and do 3+ vocabulary and 3+ events (like pertinent points for fiction). Also make sure you understand who Scout, Jem, and Dill are. What's each kid's gender and race? What's important to know about the family history with which the book opens?
