AP Lit. (Period Per. 6) Assignments

Read the following 4 short articles that deal with Postmodernism and come prepared to discuss it.  Know why the Simpson's is considered quintessentially postmodern.  You will be quizzed through your creation of Thinking Maps!

1.  Through your assigned lens, journal Scenes 1 and 2 of Act I of Macbeth.  Be sure to do TWO things in each journal entry:  one, identify the meaning that emerges; and two, explain what Shakespeare does (i.e., how he does it) to make that meaning emerge.

 

 

 

1.  No homework due.  We will work on our websites (Beowulf card trick), after a lecture on Old English (Anglo-Saxon), Middle-English (Medieval Era and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, which we'll checkout from the library on Monday.) and Modern English.   Be sure to have your Beowulf book to return when you get The Canterbury Tales.  

2.  Graded essays will be passed back and put into your portfolio folder.  

1.  Have Beowulf read by next Thursday, when you will write your TIMED essay.  In class, we will review sections of Beowulf and compare them to those same sections written by other translators.  Next week, you will be given the general topics on which the essay options will be based.   

1.  Read to middle of Page 19 in Beowulf.  We will review and continue reading with Seamus Heaney next class.... then begin our websites.  

1.  Expect reading quiz on pp. 3-19 of Beowulf next class. 

1.  Study the Family Tree found at the back of the Beowulf.  NOTE:  Beo is not the same person as Beowulf.  You will need to recognize these names when you read this story in class and/or out of class.  Period 5:  Be sure to have your 10 pics (one for each literary era in your Google Drive.  Period 6:  We will work on getting the 10 pics next class.  You will also be visited by a counselor and by administrators next class to talk about important senior-year "stuff."  You don't want to miss this class--or any class for that matter.  :)    

 

A few students still need to make up the Oedipus essay.  You know who you are. So see me asap to arrange a time to make up this important essay.   

1.  Review all handouts given in class.

2.  Finish explication of Sappho poem.  Due next class.

3.  Continue reading Oedipus.  Essay next Monday.  Prompts will be discussed next class.

4.  I've decided not to post the YouTube "oral explanation of Oedipus."  I'll let you search for it yourself.  I'm sure you'll find a good summary to both read, watch, and/or listen to.  In any event, make sure you READ the actual play at the link I provided you a few classes ago.
