1. There will be a Beowulf reading test (maybe an AP TIMED M-C test) before your TIMED essay next class. You know the themes on which your Beowulf essay options are based, but I've listed them below:
- values evidenced in the poem Beowulf
- the formula of the “epic”

- stories-within-a-story
- the relationship of the narrator and the story
- literary traditions (kennings, epithets, alliteration, paganism, Christianity, etc.)

Remember, you're reading it in translation, so the syntax will be a bit unusual. We will be writing an essay on it the last class day I see you next week.
