Due:
Assignment
I need your spirals if you haven't yet turned them in.
Also, I gave you three timed writing scores in class. The first is for development. The second is for organization. The third is for language use. Look for these categories on the rubric I distributed. This will give you more information about how you did on the recent timed writing. Choose an area for improvement and focus on it for the timed writing you'll do on the day of our final. Sleep. Eat breakfast. Imagine it going well, because it will!
Remember if a prompt isn't about you, then you shouldn't use "I" at all. If a prompt is about you, there may still be parts of your paper where it is more powerful to avoid using the "I." When you use the personal pronoun "I," it must be capitalized. Finally, make your writing sound more formal by avoiding contractions all together.
Due:
Assignment
Be ready to present if you signed up for this date. Also prepare for the Socratic seminar. You may have one side of one page handwritten notes for the seminar. Be prepared to answer any of the three questions.
1. Imagine Romeo as a real person; would you call him a weak individual? How do you regard him as a character? Is he a well developed, round character? How typical of a young boy is he?
2. Now that you've read all five acts, what are your thoughts about Friar Lawrence's involvement? Do you agree with how the Prince responds to what Friar admits to at the end of the play? Why? or why not?
3. Romeo and Juliet's relationships with their respective parents could certainly use some work. What similarities and differences can you find when you compare their relationships with their parents to parent-child relationships in 2017?

If you hope to earn an A, please also try to add insight to the discussion. You may reference anything in the first five chapters. Please do not spoil chapters 6-12.

2. Do you find Golding's diction or syntax most impressive? Why? You must discuss both diction and syntax. Insight idea: are there parts of the text where Golding uses diction and syntax to draw our attention to some implicit or explicit theme in the text? Make sure your themes sound like themes (complete messages).

Assignment
Draft your 5-7 minute IR book presentation. Your can refer back to the last posting for the main question of the presentation.
Include the following in your slide show:
A cover slide
A thesis slide

Up to 4 slides of concrete details (you must use direct quotes)
A conclusion slide
A works cited slide
A "thank you" slide
*If you want to do more than 10 slides, please clear it with me.
Most presentations will require 4 concrete details, 2 from the IR book and 2 from at least one outside source. If you argue that the book shouldn't be published, you still need 4 concrete details, but you'll also need to decide what criterion means the book should remain unpublished. If you want to argue NO BECAUSE there's a lack of complex history in your IR book, provide 3 concrete details (all from outside source/s) that show important history that the book completely ignores.
On Friday/Monday, you will need to show me that you have already plugged in your required number of concrete details.
Due:

Should the book be published because of its ability to teach about complex (not obvious or commonly understood) history despite the fact that it is technically fiction?
3. For class on Wednesday/Thursday, bring a typed hard copy of three URLs that might be helpful for this project. What sources can you find that inform about what was really going on in the lives of people during the place and time your book is set? How did the real public respond to the historical events in your text? Was it similar to how the characters responded in the events?
