Assignment

When we meet for the last time, you must hand in your annotated bibliography and your 4-square work for acts IV and V of Romeo and Juliet. You will also take the last Romeo and Juliet quiz (covering acts IV and V). Please bring an additional hard copy of either IR project I or II, whichever you are willing to read aloud. Lastly, submit your annotated bibliography to turnitin.com.

Women in the Arts Research Question: Has your girl been portrayed negatively, positively, or neutrally by artists? Feel free to consider literature and the visual arts. You also may choose to consider history books and biographies if applicable.

 Directions for Annotated Bibliography:

Make an annotated bibliography (an extended Works Cited page) with five entries. One entry must be Romeo and Juliet. One much come from the list of sources I provide, and one must be of your own choosing. After each entry, write one paragraph of five or fewer sentences. The paragraph must explain why the source appears reputable and why it might be helpful in answering the research question. It is not necessary to be experts on any of the five sources on which you report.

Remember to use easybib for help creating the works cited entries. Also, the below links should prove helpful. The first is to a sample annotated bibliography. The second link shows an example of how to cite a play by Shakespeare. Make sure you use the the publisher and copyright information in your textbook when creating your exact entry for Romeo and Juliet.

Assignment

IR project due! Give me a hard copy in class and submit to turnitin.com.

Directions: Each student must do two IR projects this quarter. The first is due  5/17-18 and the second is due 6/1-2. There are a total of four options. You must do 1a or 1b and 2a or 2b. You may do both b's, but not both a's.

All projects must be typed in a professional size-twelve font. The b's must be double spaced. All projects must include awesome titles and an additional three purposeful diction choices.

1a. A sonnet about the main character. The sonnet must be 14 10-syllable lines and fit either the English or Italian rhyme scheme. It does NOT need to be in iambic pentameter.

1b. Examine how stereotyping has impacted the main character. Did the character grow despite the stereotyping or was growth stunted by the stereotyping? Write an essay of at least four paragraphs. Each paragraph must contain at least two quotes. I recommend considering a single stereotype.

2a. Write three poems that spin out of some singular experience you've had. You determine the length of the poems. Attach a paragraph explaining whether or not there are any connections between your poems and your IR book. It is perfectly acceptable to claim there is no connection. Additionally, your paragraph should guess at what topic your main character would choose to write three poems about if he or she were given this assignment by a teacher.

2b. Write a personal narrative of 300+ words. The personal narrative must make some reference (direct or indirect) to the IR book.

Your new IR book must be in your possession. You have a quiz on chapters 1-4 of LotF and your spirals are due. Be sure to use your spiral as a study guide. This includes studying the DIFS notes on the most recent spiral page. To further prepare for the quiz, you should also closely review the following pages:

Chapter 1: pages 13-14
"I could swim when I was five." to "The roar from the reef became very distant."

Chapter 2: page 41
The paragraph that starts with the words "life became a race with the fire..."

Chapter 3: pages 55-57
Start with "Simon was not in the bathing pool as they had expected" and read through the rest of that chapter on page 57.

As you read the above pages, preview them for D, I, F, and S. You do not need to write the DIFS down anywhere. There is nothing I plan to collect for this last homework assignment.
