ELD 4 Humanities (Period Per 1) Assignments

We will begin our in-class debates Friday 5/27 and continue next week. Be prepared with your printed out ( hard copy) of notes and/or index cards. This is a presentation and I will be grading on Time limits, Research, Back up and supporting data, projection, eye contact and attitude.

Thirty seconds final comments and statement of researched opinion.

Finish your short story using the voacbulary words from the stories we read in class.  Read from p 114  "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" through p 125 "Magic" for in class discussion.

We will continue with the presentations of "People/ or Events that have Changed the World" and then continue with our short story selections. BRING YOUR BOOKS TO CLASS ALL NEXT WEEK. DON'T FORGET!!!

Bring your Multicultural Reader books to class all week. We will work on short selections this week and finish up any remaining presentations

We will begin our project presentations  ( People who have contributed to humanity in some significant way) on Thursday. Be prepared with note cards and powerpoints/prezis. No reading off the computer so have your notes written up. Eye contact and presentation skills will count for a major grade on this assignment as we near the end of the semester. No absences, please,  as your partners need you to be in attendance

We will continue with CELDT practice test in class Monday. Be prepared to work on your next project at the conclusion of the testing.

Project due today (Wednesday)

We will work on our projects in class Thursday. Your project has been moved to the Wednesday  after spring break. This is a class assignment so finish up PRIOR to spring break week. Don't wait!! We have had two weeks on this assignments so yu MUST be ready on April 11

Bring in your narrowed topic for your Research Project due 4/1. These are the steps you will follow:

1. General Research on computer

2. Database selection 

3. Journal/ Periodical source(s) -- three sources, one of which can be a book. Print out your information.

4. Powerpoint/ Prezi or some form of slide presentation. Bullets and images only; written text must be on note cards  so that you can deliver effectively without reading from the powerpoint itself.

5. Use one  new Web 2.0 tool. Select from cooltoolsforschools.com or an equivalent site

6. Citations through easybib.com  or equivalent site

 

 

We will work on vocabulary and grammar for the next two days. Next week, I will assign your next project.  

Type up one example of each of these terms and how they apply to either " Sunday", p. 82 OR "The Real Thing" ( p.76):
Diction ( word choice), detail( events, incident, specific piece of information )

Imagery ( sight, sound, touch, taste, smell), Syntax ( sentence structure; use of punctuation) Figurative Language ( metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, symbol) tone ( author's attitude i.e. sinster, mysterious, bitter-sweet)

Read "Gentleman of Rio en Medio" p.79 for class discussion.

We will finish Heritage Project presentations

"Housepainting" Vocabulary  PAST due. You may turn in for some credit on Wednesday.

Complete vocabulary packet. Be prepared to discuss pages 70 - 77 of novel

Do Vocabulary packet for Tuesday.

We will have a discussion on PP 70 - 77 of your novel; we MAY have a short five point quiz.

Read to end of page 77 of your novel for discussion Friday

Read through to p. 70 in your novel. We will have a quiz on these pages on Wed. 10/14

Presentation on Shakespeare's Theater ( 8 slides minimum) due Monday Oct 12

Midsummer Night's Dream scenes due Thursday. All your team members must be present to perform.

Powerpoint/ Prezi/ Google slides on Shakespeare's Theater ( Globe Theater or other theatre structure), his  background and 4 plays due Monday Oct 12. All partners need to be in class to present.

Read to page 41 in Snow Falling in Spring

Work on reading lines for your character in the Shakespeare scene you are working on with your team

Read through to P 21 of Snow Falling in Spring. 

If you completed your 10 vocabulary words and definitions  in class, you are okay to hand them in in cursive; if you did NOT complete them, please type up the words and definitions for homework. Due Thursday 

Test on reading novel and on Romantic composers.. You may use your notes on the test

Composer presentation is due in class Monday. All partners must be present.

Test on your reading book will be FRIDAY so please finish reading through to the end of book.
