- Description
-
This AP Physics 1 class is under a new curriculum this year (2014-2015). The previous AP Physics B course has been divided into AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2. At South Pasadena High School, we are teaching the AP Physics 1 course. The textbook we use is Physics by Giancoli, (5th Edition). There is no longer a website that accompany's our text book but there is a companion website for the next edition (6th edition) of Giancoli.(Click on a chapter to see the practice questions and problems)Here, you can find practice questions, practice problems, applications and other useful areas. Though the textbook is not exactly the same, the physics is the same and these questions and problems can make for a useful review of physics concepts. Here is another helpful website from the University of Colorado, called PhET.It has interactive simulations on many physics concepts and topics. You can just enter the topic you want to see if it is available.Another useful website is called The Physics Classroom where there are tutorials, simulations, practice questions, etc. The website is http://www.physicsclassroom.com/Another site is from the author of the textbook called "Conceptual Physics" that is used by the regular physics class. Paul Hewitt has many short video clips that demonstrate various physics principles. The link is:Here are all four of the websites listed above:

Assignment
Homework for Hooke's Law Experiment:
- Plotting Stretch distance (cm) on Y-axis, vs. Mass (grams) on X-axis, make a graph (1) using rubber band data.
- Make a second similar graph (2) using spring data.
- Find the value of k for both graphs. Did the two graphs give a linear relationship?
- Use k from graph 2 to determine the weight (N) of the unknown object.
- Compare the measured vs. calculated weight of the unknown object using the equation for % error = |measured value - calculated value|/ measured value x 100
- To find the value of k from each graph, you will need to 1) find the slope2) Inverse the slope3) Convert grams into Newtons4) Convert cm into meters
