Synthesis Paper (2nd/final draft) in Google Classroom

Synthesis Paper (2nd/final draft)

The final draft of the synthesis paper is due to turnitin before class on Thursday.

Your paper must contain proper in-text citations and a works cited page.

Your paper must be between 600 and 1000 words. The word count does not include the works cited page.
Remove the prompt from your draft before submitting.

Double space your paper.

Look closely at what turnitin highlights as potentially plagiarized. Try to fix any problem areas on your own. It's a good rule of thumb that if you have four or more consecutive words in a row that are highlighted and not in quotes, you probably didn't paraphrase enough.

If things look plagiarised, does it look like you're stealing evidence (facts from sources) or commentary (voice via adjectives)? Or both?

SRP Mentor Interview Recording Submission in Google Classroom

SRP Mentor Interview Recording Submission

IF YOUR INTERVIEWEE DIDN'T WANT TO BE RECORDED, DO THE FOLLOWING IN LIEU OF SUBMITTING THE RECORDING: Using an outside (yet professional) email address, send an email to your interviewee. CC me. The email should read,

"Dear INTERVIEWEE'S NAME,
Thank you for allowing me to interview you. My teacher has asked that I reach out to you by email today. She is cc'd here. It is her request that you 'reply all' and type 'yes' as proof that I truly interviewed you on DATE. I appreciate your help with this followup. Thank you.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME"

Take all 20 OPEN-ENDED questions to the interview. Ask the highlighted 10 first and the others if you have time. Set a timer at the beginning of the interview. Once 30 minutes have passed OR you've asked all 20 questions (whichever comes first), you have permission to end the interview. Remember that you may ask about the mentor's college and career choices. You may also ask about their thoughts are your upcoming choices. Furthermore, do they know professionals who do what you might want to do for a living?
Save the document that contains all of your questions, not just the ones you are able to ask. ALL of the questions will be submitted to turnitin.com at a later date.

The recording is due on 12/9. It must be submitted HERE. I recommend using the site vocaroo to record. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PERMISSION. If not, have someone focus on taking notes so that you can focus on asking questions.

Ms. Engelhard says, "unfortunately, Vocaroo is no longer an option (something to do with them being based in Germany and the firewall). I would recommend using their phones with voice notes OR anchor.fm is a great and free option."

A29 Thinking about the Personal Statement in Google Classroom

A29 Thinking about the Personal Statement

PERSPECTIVE -Consider what your application doesn't already communicate about you. What else do you want colleges or the workforce to know about you?

1. What three events, activities, or trips have been meaningful to you? Why were these significant? What did you learn? (Spend about 1/2 the page on #1).
2. What can you offer a college in terms of your personal character, talent, or interests?
3. What gifts, interests, or qualities are unique to you?
4. Which of the things mentioned in numbers 1-3 already appear in your PS? Are there any that should now be included? (You should be able to fill the bottom half with answers to #'s 2-4).

REMEMBER -*Because you can't focus on everything, it's your challenge to focus on AN event, quality, OR experience. I also recommend explicitly connecting that thing to your future in terms of contributions you'll make either next year on a college campus or eventually in the workforce.
