Mental Health Week Activities for Secondary Students

SPHS Peer Mediators, with the support of SPUSD Train Your Brain staff and the SPHS PTSA, worked together to create a week of uplifting activities for students from October 2-6, 2023. Students were given the opportunity to participate in Reality TEA-V, Yoga with Jaroch, Rock Painting, and a Community Picnic during lunch.

During the Community Picnic, students were encouraged to write down what they are grateful for, create arts and crafts, engage with Guide Dogs of America dogs in training, and participate in a celebratory raffle. Students also enjoyed a pizza lunch while learning about mental health resources on and off campus.

Coming up later this month at SPMS, Mental Health Week with various student activities will be held from October 23-27. In addition, SPUSD Train Your Brain Counselors will be presenting anti-bullying sessions for all sixth graders throughout the day on October 16 in the SPMS Auditorium.

These mental health activities are designed to re-acquaint students with the services offered by the TYB counselors and to encourage students to spread kindness and positive affirmations to one another. The TYB team promotes positive staff-student interactions, mindfulness, along with other healthy coping skills, resiliency, and social-emotional wellness by providing a range of comprehensive, integrated, culturally-sensitive strategies and services that support secondary-level SPUSD students.
