The Shelly Spiegel-Coleman Scholarship Award ($500): Twenty will be awarded to seniors for this special anniversary year. This scholarship is awarded to distinguished high school seniors who wish to pursue their education at an institution of higher learning, and obtain their teaching or counseling credential. Their understanding of the importance of bilingual instruction to help meet the needs of English Learners is reflected in the required essay. DUE: Dec. 18, 2015. 15th Annual Daniel Carlos Herrera Memorial Scholarship ($500): Two awarded to high school seniors who are pursuing a career in education or community service with a focus on serving an ethnically diverse society. Student who is bilingual, Spanish/English, or has a Native American Tribal Affiliation. Resilient student who in his or her earlier school career had academic or personal obstacles to overcome. Student who is or has been involved in outside community work or service. DUE: Dec. 18, 2015. Please see attachment below for scholarship application.
Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship: The JRF application is the vehicle through which more than 3,000 talented young minority high school students apply to become JRF Scholars and carry on the civic-minded legacy of the Foundation’s namesake, Jackie Robinson. The deadline to submit the application for a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is February 15, 2016 by 5:00 pm ET.
Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program: Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. Distinguished Young Women strives to give every young woman the opportunity to further her education and prepare for a successful future. Sign-up deadline is February 12, 2016.
Foothill Credit Union Scholarship: Foothill Credit Union will be awarding $2000 scholarship to select Money$mart and MondyBound members who are pursuing a college education. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2016.
California State PTA Scholarships: Graduating seniors who join the SPHS PTSA are eligible to apply for the following two CA State PTA Scholarship: $750 Volunteer Service Scholarship and $500 Dr. Ralph E. White Graduating Senior Scholarship. Online submissions only. The application deadline is February 1, 2016. You can join the SPHS PTSA today by signing up online at http://www.sphsptsa.net/support-us/, or by downloading a membership form and returning it to the SPHS Front Office. 1st District PTA Commemorative Scholarship: Graduating seniors who are members of the SPHS PTSA are eligible to apply. One SPHS candidate will be chosen to compete at the 1st District level for one of several $500 Commemorative Scholarships. This is a good opportunity for students who have overcome adversities or hardships, held a job, or managed extra home responsibilities. Download application below (titled “1st District PTA Scholarship”). Applications are due to Ms. Trejo in the Counseling Center no later than 3:00pm on March 17th.
Asian Pacific Fund Scholarship Programs: This fund administers 12 scholarships programs, each with unique eligibility criteria. Scholarships amounts range from $1,000 to $20,000 and many are renewable. The application deadline is February 19, 2016.
http://www.oneontaclub.org/ Offers three $10,000 scholarships to South Pasadena seniors. See flyer below for information. Must be received in their post office box by March 13th.
South Pasadena Alumni Association Scholarships: The Alumni Association awards scholarships to many different SPHS students in a variety of areas, including: the Albert Adams Music Scholarship (for students interested in pursuing music in their higher education), the Karen Kincel Creative Writing Scholarship (for creative writers with short stories), the Keith Gustafson Memorial Scholarship (new* for students playing sports in college), the Maggie Veir Art Scholarship (for students interested in pursuing art in their higher education), the Mary Ida Phair Memorial Scholarship (new* open to ALL seniors), and the South Pasadena Alumni Scholarship (open to ALL seniors). See attachments below for applications and more information. All applications are due the WEDNESDAY before Spring Break to Ms Barela in the Student Services office by BRUNCH.
