Principles in Education (Period 2)

Course Description

“Principles in Education” is a UC Approved (g-elective), Career Technical Education course designed to give students the experience of working in a classroom, assisting the teacher in a community classroom/ internship environment. The course is recommended for students that are considering a career in education, or working with children and youth. Daily lessons, prior to classroom placement, will consist of a core program that covers basic child development theories, classroom operation, developmental theory, class environment, teaching strategies, and record keeping. The course will stress knowledge of the child and developmental theory.
At the conclusion of eight weeks of instruction, students will begin to observe classroom situations, and will be placed in a classroom with a master teacher at one of the SPUSD elementary schools for the remainder of the year.
